Mexico man faces sex, assault charges

RUMFORD – A Mexico man, charged with a variety of crimes stemming from an alleged assault, remained in Oxford County Jail on Tuesday night.

Joshua R. Pollis, 20, was arrested late Sunday night and charged with misdemeanor crimes of unlawful sexual touching, assault, terrorizing, criminal restraint, and violating conditions of release. He was also summoned and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Sgt. David Bean said Tuesday night.

Bail was set at $1,000 cash.

Bean said there wasn’t much yet in the police incident report, including nothing about why Pollis was charged with the the sex crime.

At 9:47 p.m. on Sunday, a county dispatcher received a 911 call from a Rumford girl claiming to have been assaulted somewhere on Maine Avenue, Bean said, reading from a report by Patrolman Paul Casey.

It took police a while to locate the girl, after which, several interviews were conducted. Then, Pollis was contacted and interviewed, before being arrested, Bean said.

He is expected to be arraigned on June 6 in Rumford District Court.
