Mexico man suffers minor injuries in Tuesday morning car accident

RUMFORD — A Mexico man was taken to Rumford Hospital early Tuesday morning after his car slid into a pulp truck, Maine State trooper Jason Wing said Wednesday.

Wing said that at 7:15 a.m., John Harris of Mexico was driving westbound in a 2004 Ford Focus on South Rumford Road when he skidded into the path of a Richard Carrier truck, driven by James Cody of Peru.

“Mr. Harris had bad tires on his vehicle, and he was going a little bit too fast for the road conditions,” Wing said. “The roads at the time were snow-covered and slushy, so while going around a corner on South Rumford Road, he slid into the loading clamps of the Richard Carrier truck.”

Wing said Harris complained of knee and shin pain. “I didn’t want to take him out of the car until I had extrication tools on hand, so I made sure to do the check while he was still in the car,” Wing said.

Harris’s car was demolished, Wing said, while Cody’s truck suffered minor damage.

“There was a little damage to one of the cross members underneath the truck, but the accident didn’t appear to mess with the structural integrity of the truck,” Wing said.

Cody suffered no injuries in the accident.
