Michael R. Wood


Lewiston – Michael R. Wood, 62, of 97 Googin St., died at his home Wednesday, April 26.

He was born in Lewiston, May 4, 1943, a son of I. Wilbur and Stella Blad Wood. He graduated from Lewiston High School with the Class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966, and worked at Gates Formed Fiber for 30 years, retiring on Nov. 8, 2002.

Mike attended St. Joseph’s Church and was a member of the Androscoggin Trail Venturers Club.

He loved spending time with family and friends, cooking and fishing.

He enjoyed hunting, boating, riding his ATV, building model cars and watching Nascar.

He will be remembered as an outdoorsman, someone who loved to tease and tell jokes. You could always count on seeing him tinkering with gadgets and be ready to fix anything broken. He was always helping others. He loved to cook and swap recipes with friends and family. He was known for his “famous” pickles. He loved seeing the different reactions on people’s faces when they tried them.

He is survived by five daughters and their spouses, Doreen and Tom Goulet of Wales, Brenda and Gerry Letourneau of Lewiston, Barbara and Jim Casella of Lisbon, Carrie-Lynn Wood and fiance, Jason Miles, of Lewiston and Ashley Wood; seven grandchildren, Abby and Sadie Goulet, T.J. Ferland, Rylee Letourneau, Kara Casella, Deven Miles and Adia Coulombe; a sister, Karen St. Jean of Lisbon; a niece, April Edwards and husband, Jim; two nephews, Randy Caron and wife, Dawn, and Robin Caron; a godchild, John Lajoie and wife, Nicole.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Caron.
