Midcoast Youth Theater to audition for ‘Kiss Me Kate’

TOPSHAM — Midcoast Youth Theater will hold auditions for the musical “Kiss Me Kate” on Thursday and Friday, May 13-14, at Mt. Ararat High School.

This is MYT’s sixth annual teen production. All students entering grades 9 to 12 and graduating high-school seniors are welcome to audition. Auditioners should be prepared to read from the script, dance and sing a song of their choice.

“Kiss Me Kate,” a fun and sophisticated Broadway classic inspired by Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” is a play within a play. The actors’ on-stage roles are complicated by what happens in their off-stage lives.

“Kiss Me Kate” features many well-known Cole Porter songs, including “Why Can’t You Behave,” “Wunderbar,” “Too Darn Hot” and “Always True to You (In My Fashion).”

The production will be directed by Michael Millett, with choreography by Linda Gardiner. Show dates are July 29-31 and Aug. 1.

Auditions will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

For each participant, a troupe fee of $75 and a $25 script fee will be due at the first rehearsal. For more information, call Millett at 233-3899.
