Mildred L. Taliento

PORTLAND – Mildred L. Taliento died at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home on April 17.

She was born in Portland on March 21, 1916, a daughter of Clark B.J. and Sophie E. Hamilton McIntire. She attended Portland schools and married John J. Taliento on Feb. 14, 1941, who owned and operated Tally’s Wholesale Tobacco and Candy with his brother, Ralph.

Following their marriage, she and John worked together at Tally’s Smoke Shop. She loved to work in her yard and always kept an immaculate garden of annual and parennial flowers. Her peonies were some of the most beautiful in the area. She also groomed her blackberry bushes that produced an abundance of fruit. She loved the times she and her husband spent at their cottage at Sebago Lake, restaurants they visited and drives that they took together.

Always young at heart, she bought one of the first Ford Mustangs when they first were introduced in 1965. She always went for sporty two-door cars such as the Mustang, Cougar and a Probe, which she drove in recent years. She loved reading newspapers and magazines and always kept abreast of the latest news and stories.

While living at St. Joseph’s, she kept up her reading and keen interest in current events and loved visits from her relatives and discussing what they had been doing. She also had a very special place in her heart for animals and owned several small breed dogs.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Ruth M. Doyle and husband, Jim, of Otisfield, Clark H. McIntire Jr. and wife, Marion, of West Palm Beach, Fla. and David L. McIntire and wife, Mary, of Raymond; several grandnieces and grandnephews and their children, John E. McIntire and son, John Jr., Deborah Bush and children, Megan and Ryan Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Williams and son, Thomas Clark Williams and Rebecca and Amy McIntire; her niece, Nancy Taliento Goodwin and her husband, Ernold; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, John; brother, Clark H. McIntire Sr.; and sister, Dorothy M. Ingraham.
