WATERFORD — Sawin Millett has launched his campaign to represent District 14 in the Maine Senate.
Millett’s candidacy offers a strong and experienced voice for new jobs, tax relief, agriculture and education in Maine, according to a release issued by the campaign.
“As a native Mainer, Millett understands the unique concerns of Western Maine,” the release said. “His six terms in the Maine House of Representatives, as well as 18 years in cabinet-level positions for four Maine governors of both parties, have given him the knowledge and credibility to build consensus for effective change in Augusta.”
Millett was a ranking member of the Legislature’s Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee where he gained a depth of knowledge essential to repairing the financial problems in Maine, the release said.
“Augusta must end its overspending and over-regulating of our economy,” Millett said in a prepared statement. “We need to create new jobs by reducing the cost of doing business in Maine and create real tax relief for families and businesses.”
Millett’s other legislative priorities include boosting small business by cutting red tape and regulation, strengthening Maine’s farming and forestry industries, keeping local schools local to enhance student learning and improving transportation infrastructure in western Maine.
Millett and his wife, Barbara, have been married 53 years. They have five children, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Senate District 14 includes Andover, Bethel, Buckfield, Byron, Canton, Dixfield, Gilead, Greenwood, Hanover, Hartford, Hebron, Lovell, Mexico, Newry, Peru, Roxbury, Rumford, Stoneham, Stow, Sumner, Sweden, Upton, Waterford, West Paris, Woodstock, several unorganized territories in Oxford County and the town of Jay in Franklin County.
