Milton S. Stone


FALMOUTH – Milton Starling Stone, 80, died Sunday, May 7, after a long illness.

He was born in Rumford, on Feb. 24, 1926, a son of George L. Stone Sr. and Mildred (Sawyer) Stone. He attended Pownal schools and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy with the Class of 1943.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and saw action in Okinawa. After the war, he attended the University of Maine at Orono for two years. When the Korean Conflict broke out he reenlisted and served in Korea. He took great pride in being a Marine and having served his country.

After discharge from the Marines, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C., and surrounding areas, until his retirement, and then moved to Florida. In his spare time, he liked gardening. He loved animals, especially his cats and dogs.

He is survived by his brother, George L. Stone Jr. of Brattleboro, Vt.; his sister, Thelma Chamberlain of Falmouth; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel (Bladen) Stone.
