Missing boy sought

LEWISTON — Police from several departments are searching for a local 14-year-old boy who family members say ran away while on a field trip with other members of a group home over the weekend.

Jeremia Mercier, of Bartlett Street, remained missing Wednesday after running away during a field trip to the YMCA in Augusta, according to his family.

Mercier, in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services, had been staying at a group home in Sully when he went on the trip, according to a relative. His family believes he may be on his way back to Lewiston, where he has friends.

Police in Augusta are searching for Mercier, and Lewiston police have been notified, as have other departments in the area.

Mercier is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds with dirty blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing black and red shorts, a sweatshirt and sneakers when he was last seen.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call their local police department.
