DIXFIELD — To drive home the point of not driving after boozing it up during upcoming proms and graduations, area emergency responders will host a simulated fatal accident at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Dirigo High School, either on the football field or in the parking lot.
“We’re staging a mock car accident with fatalities the weekend before prom to try and discourage them from drinking and driving,” Dixfield fire Capt. Jason Hyde said Wednesday in Dixfield.
“It’s important that we make them see what could possibly happen, but I’m not naïve,” Hyde said. “We’re not going to stop them from drinking, but I want to stop them from driving after they do.”
Participants include Dirigo High School students, Dixfield, Peru and Rumford fire departments, Dixfield police and Med-Care Ambulance.
The rain date is Thursday, May 6.
