Monarchs flutter past Pirates, 6-0

PORTLAND (AP) – Jason LaBarbera notched his fifth shutout of the season while Matt Moulson and Tim Jackman scored two goals apiece, leading the Manchester Monarchs past the Portland Pirates 6-0 Wednesday in the American Hockey League.

The Pirates (20-14-1-5) outshot the Monarchs 32-17 but could not beat LaBarbera, who moved into a tie with Hamilton’s Jaroslav Halak as the AHL shutout leader.

The Monarchs (24-12-6-1) built a 3-0 lead by the second intermission. Matt Ryan scored late in the first period and Moulson netted two in the second.

After Patrick O’Sullivan made it 4-0 early in the third period, Jackman scored twice after the frame’s halfway mark.

Portland’s Dov Grumet-Morris allowed all six goals; he was relieved by Mike Wall after allowing Jackman’s second of the evening.
