Monmouth junior tops in Lions contests


MONMOUTH – Scott Turcotte, Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out 2006 winner, also took first place in two district competitions. first place Monmouth Lions Club, March 9, District 41-I April 29, Multiple District Convention, May 6.

Turcotte placed first with “America’s TV Zombie Invasion” at the Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out on March 9, receiving a $45 cash award and trophy.

He went on to take first at the Lions Club International District 41-I Convention on April 29 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. He received $250 cash award and trophy.

At the Lions Club International Multiple District 41 76th annual convention at the Holiday Inn in Portland on May 6, Turcotte won first and received a $400 cash award and plaque.

District 41 includes seven districts, two in Maine and five in Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador and Prince Edward Island).

The speech was evaluated by the judges in three areas: delivery of speech, quality of material and response to the questions.

Turcotte is a junior at Monmouth Academy.
