MONMOUTH — American Legion Post 204 will host a Memorial Day parade and ceremony on Monday, May 31.
The North Monmouth parade will begin at the Community Church at 9 a.m. and proceed to the Veterans Monument where a brief ceremony will be held.
The parade will reconvene immediately following the North Monmouth ceremony at Cumston Hall at about 10:30 a.m., proceeding down Main Street to the veterans monument for services. Chairs will be provided for veterans who wish to join the ceremony in Memorial Park.
If Monmouth and Wales residents have American flags that are too worn, frayed or damaged to be flown, please do not discard them with household trash. A special receptacle for such retired flags is provided at the Monmouth Transfer Station at the base of the flagpole. Flags should be deposited there for a later flag retirement ceremony at which they will be respectfully destroyed according to federal law and American Legion protocol.
