MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out 2010 for Monmouth Academy students was held March 15, at the Roadside Bakery and Cafe on Main Street.
Mackenzie Kelley placed first with her speech “Immigration Through Time.” She received a $50 cash award and trophy. Julia Destefano was second with her speech on “How Diabetes Can Affect A Family” She won a $40 cash award and trophy. Kristine Kahl placed third with her speech, “Is Insanity Really an Excuse For Murder.” She received a $30 cash award and trophy.
The students were judged on delivery of speech, material in speech and response to questions. Questions were asked by Lion Bill Mann and Lion Rev. Desmond Parker.
Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt were each presented with a Lions Club International key chain in appreciation of their work.
Each student and each coach were also presented with a Maine Lions Helen Keller District 41 pin.
