Mother continues daughter’s commitment

LEWISTON — The 2014 Dempesy Challenge, like the previous five, brought together hundreds of volunteers in support of a worthy cause. One volunteer who had volunteered for all the previous Challenges could not be there. Tara Chase tragically passed away in an automobile accident on Dec. 2, 2013.

Tara attended the Lewiston Regional Technical Center’s Culinary Program, The Green Ladle, her junior and senior years and graduated from Lewiston High School in 2011. After High School Chase remained committed to helping at The Green Ladle and volunteered at every fundraising event she could. She was passionate and committed.

On Sept. 27, under the big tent, at the 5K Cafe, along with 50 plus other chefs, Tara’s mother, Rhonda Tilley, donned her daughter’s Green Ladle sweatshirt and took her place. She was greeted with hugs, smiles and memories as she flipped omelets in memory of her daughter’s spirit and passion. The theme of this year’s Challenge was, “Who are you there for?” Rhonda Tilley was there for Tara keeping her passion alive.
