Motorcycle accident sends one man to the hospital with serious injuries

CASCO — A 47-year-old man was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries after the motorcycle he was operating crossed the center line and hit a car head-on Sunday morning on Route 121.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported that Mark Leach, 47, was summonsed for operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsements following the 10:45 a.m. crash. Leach was operating a 1996 Honda motorcycle when he hit a 1994 Ford Escort driven by Mark Valsecchi, 52, of Otisfield.

Leach was taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries to his pelvis and back, according to authorities, adding that his injuries could have been worse had he not been wearing a helmet. His condition was unknown as of Sunday night.

Operator inexperience is believed to have played a role in the crash.
