OXFORD — A motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital after smashing head-first into a car ahead of him Monday afternoon on Route 26.
Oxford police officer Daniel Hastings said Michael Rawding, 51, of Gorham was traveling south on Route 26 when his motorcycle struck a stopped vehicle ahead of him at the traffic light in front of Wal-Mart.
Police said Rawding collected himself, moved the motorcycle to the side of the road and collapsed. He was not wearing a helmet, Hastings said.
Rawding was transported by ambulance to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway with a gash to the head and a broken hand. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
There was no significant damage to the car.
