FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue Voices a cappella vocal ensemble from Mt. Blue High School will represent their community and state during Walt Disney World’s Magic Music Days Celebration. The 16-member group will travel to Florida from April 15 to 20 to perform a number of concerts and take part in two lengthy workshops.
The Voices will present a special pre-Disney trip concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 28, in Nordica Auditorium, Merrill Hall, on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
This year, The Voices, under the direction of Dennis Hayes, have put together a varied repertoire of popular songs representing each of the decades from the 1950s to the present.
Hayes said that because of the Disney trip “we have really expanded into styles that we have not tried before. We are confident that The Voices have something for everyone. Along with songs that have topped the pop charts we have this year included a country hit by Shania Twain, some hip hop dance music by Beyonce and of course a couple of Disney classics.”
Disney promotes their Magic Music Days program as a way for student musicians to perform for an international audience, Hayes said.
In 2010 Disney Youth Group Programs will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Magic Music Days. Over this quarter of a century, more than one million students have performed as part of the program.
During the March 28 concert, The Voices will be have their CD “Can You Hear The Voices?” on sale. Donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go directly to funding the group’s Disney trip.
