Murray S. Tenney Jr.

WESTBROOK – Murray Stenchfield Tenney Jr., 76, of Falmouth, died very peacefully, Friday, Jan. 26, after a short illness, with his family at his side.

He was born on April 19, 1930, in Mechanic Falls, the son of Mary E. (Richmond) and Murray S. Tenney Sr. He worked as a press man and plate marker for the Portland Press Herald for more than 40 years.

He belonged to the Maine Mechanics Association, the Maine Mineralogical and Geological Society, the Tenney Family Association and the North Deering Congregational Church. He was past vice-commander of American Legion Post 164 in Falmouth, and was very active in the Masons. He belonged to Deering Lodge 183, Order of the Eastern Star – Deering Chapter 59 OES, the York and Scottish Rites and was a Kora Temple Shriner in Lewiston.

He enjoyed talking with others and was not shy about sharing his opinions. He truly was a unique and one-of-kind person. Another “hallmark” of his was his generosity toward others in need, known and unknown. He loved to spend time at his camp by the water, the company of his cats and his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Tenney of Massachusetts; his son, John of New Gloucester; his sister, Ruby Hutnak of Rhode Island; and grandchildren, Erika Tenney and Austin Tenney.
