Nancy Ann Cummings


NORWAY – Nancy Ann Cummings, 74, of Bethel died in Norway on July 24, after a long illness.

She was born in Rumford on Dec. 19, 1932, the daughter of Earl and Nellie (Silver) Cummings and was educated in Bethel schools and graduated from Gould Academy in 1951. She married Hermon Cummings Jr. in Locke Mills on Dec. 1, 1954. For more than 20 years, she owned and operated Mountain Side Country Crafts from her home.

She was an active person, enjoying gardening, music, nature, day trips with her Gould Academy classmates and her Soup and Ski Group at Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center. She was known for her warm and inviting smile. She had an easy going personality and found joy in the small things in life. She was vibrant caring, strong and faithful and lived life to its fullest. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life. She also found joy and comfort as a member of the Bethel Alliance Church.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Cummings, and his wife, Becky, and Bruce Cummings, all of Bethel; two daughters, Rachel Thorne, and her husband, Robert, of LaGrange, Ga., and Rhonda Buker, and her husband, Raymond “Bunk,” of Newry; one sister, Ruth Sorofman of Pine View, Ga.; and eight grandchildren, Brian A. Thorne, Phillip E. Thorne and Jason A. Thorne, all of Columbus, Ga., Darcie E Buker and Darren W. Buker of Newry, and Jordan W. Cummings, Abbie W. Cummings and Michaela P. Cummings, all of Bethel.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hermon Cummings Jr.; three brothers, Arthur, Irving “Blackie” and Earl “George”; and one sister, Eleanor “Boots” Morton.
