1936 – 2014
KENNEBUNK — Nancy Stetson (Hood) Cooper, 78, of Huntington Commons in Kennebunk, died on Friday, Oct. 17, at her home, following a period of failing health.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on March 27, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (Smith) Hood. She grew up on the seacoast, attending schools in Kittery and Portsmouth and graduating from Portsmouth High School.
Nancy worked for the IRS in Portsmouth for a time.
In March 1974, she married her husband, Douglass J. Cooper, and they made a home in Kittery until 1979 when they relocated to the West Coast where they made their home, after which they later returned to the East Coast, living in Sanford for a short time and Norway for seven years. They recently made their home in Kennebunk.
Where ever Nancy made a home, she enjoyed setting up and facilitating craft groups. She was a skilled crafter, enjoying needlepoint and any other handiwork.
She is survived by her loving husband, Douglass; sisters, Barbara Trumbull of Dothan, Ala., Constance Mitchell of Exeter, N.H., and Sharon (Michael) Plouffe of Hampton, N.H.; her brother-in-law, Glenn (Deborah) Cooper, of Arlington, Va.; sister-in-law, Leslie (James) Powell, of Gresham, Ore.; her children, Lawrence (Crystal) Cooper of Gold River, Calif., Gary Eaton of North Berwick, Michael (Dallas) Cooper of Fairfield, Calif., Patricia (Alfred) Ojeda of Fairfield, Calif., Cheryl (Mark) Foster of Centralia, Wash., Kevin Cooper of Vacaville, Calif., and Pamela (Russell) Allan of Eliot; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
