Nellie L. Kilgore


LEWISTON – Nellie L. Kilgore, 74, of Clover Health Care in Auburn, formerly of Norway, died Friday, May 12, at St. Mary’s Hospital after several years of ill health.

She was born in Naples on Feb. 28, 1932, the daughter of George E. and Evelyn Gammon Leavitt. Nellie graduated from Bridgton High School in 1950 and attended Central Maine Technical College later in life to obtain CNA certification.

She worked as a telephone operator at Poland Spring Hotel and as a CNA at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clinton E. Kilgore, on Sept. 21, 1976.

She was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Norway, and was an active member of the Women’s Guild in the church. She was also a member of the Knit and Sew Club of Harrison.

She enjoyed her family and kept pace with birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions with cards adorned with her written thoughts. Clint and Nellie often invited family members on their frequent picnic outings.

She is survived by two brothers, George E. and Raymond E. Leavitt, and one sister, Gwendolyn Leavitt Cadman, all of Bridgton; 17 nieces and nephews; and 19 great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest of Naples in World War II, Cyril of Florida, and Ralph of Conway Center; and a great-nephew, John Cadman.
