1964 – 2014
RUMFORD — Nelson W. Hughes, 50, died Monday, Sept. 29, at his residence in Rumford.
He was born in New Milford, Conn., on April 5, 1964, the son of Nelson and Leanna (McBreairty) Hughes and was raised and attended schools in Allagash.
Nelson served for six years with the Maine Army National Guard as a specialist in Battery B, 1st Battalion.
He worked as a construction worker for Len Poulin Construction Co. in Winslow.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, and enjoyed motor sports, snowmobile racing, mud runs, hunting and fishing. He was well-known for his mechanical abilities.
Nelson was married in Norridgewock on May 26, 2012, to Amy Martin of Rumford, who survives him. Other survivors include a daughter, Nikki “Little Nikkin” Hughes and companion, Devon Siltz, of Linneus; sisters, Althea Bouchard and husband, Galen, and Pam Hughes and companion, Richard Brown, of Caribou, Wilda Saunders and husband, Steve, and Laura Hughes of Hodgdon; step-children, Ashley McLellan and husband, Eric, of Maryland, Thomas Hutchins of Lewiston and Tyler Martin of Rumford; former wife and mother of his children, Lori Ingraham and her family, Thomas and Pam Clark of Hodgdon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two children, Coleman Robert and Jacob Thomas Hughes; and a sister, Nila Hughes Soucy.
