EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Vince Carter scored 31 points, Jason Kidd added 19 and narrowly missed his second triple-double in three games and New Jersey defeated Indiana 105-95 on Monday.

With Toronto’s 104-86 win over Philadelphia, New Jersey remained percentage points behind the first-place Raptors in the Atlantic Division.

Al Harrington led Indiana with 18.

Carter and Kidd started the fourth quarter on the bench after helping New Jersey build an 88-63 lead through three quarters, then had to return to the game when Sarunas Jasikevicius’ 3-pointer pulled Indiana to within 15 (95-80) with less than six minutes remaining.

Mikki Moore, who had 19 points off the bench, scored five consecutive points and Carter added his fifth 3-pointer of the game to help New Jersey pull away. Indiana closed the gap to 11 with 2:09 left, but ran out of time.

Kidd continues to excel in the face of mounting off-court distractions surrounding his marriage. The All-Star point guard filed for divorce from wife Joumana last Tuesday, and both he and his wife have filed restraining orders against each other recently.

In his last three games, Kidd has averaged 22 points and 11 assists. On Monday he finished with 10 assists and nine rebounds.
