LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen are scheduled to appoint a new fire chief at their meeting Monday. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Town Office.
The new chief will succeed Gerry Pineau of Jay who resigned on Dec. 31 to further his medical education.
Twelve applications were submitted for the position, four candidates were interviewed. Selectmen met in executive session with Town Manager Kristal Flagg in December and agreed by consensus to go along with her recommendation but wanted her to see if the candidate was still interested in the job and conduct a background check before making the appointment.
Flagg said she will discuss GIS, or orthoimagery maps of the town that would cost $7,500. The maps would be high-resolution.
“It’s three dimensional and you actually see houses on the street. We’d have it online and on disk,” she said, if selectmen and voters approve spending the money.
The town would be able to map the sewer lines and the water lines and highlight different areas and locations, she said.
The town would have to commit to getting them by Jan. 31.
Selectmen had previously approved Code Enforcement Officer James Butler Jr.’s request on behalf of the Planning Board of spending up to $1,000 to get updated maps of the town. Board members said they needed them when developing ordinances and only a portion of the town is affected.
Flagg said she didn’t believe those maps were purchased.
The money targeted for them could go toward the GIS maps.
Voters would have to approve transferring money from the undesignated fund to buy the maps, she said.
