NEW SHARON — On Oct. 4, dozens of seniors attended the first New Sharon Senior’s Fair at the town offices. Attendees commented that the three-hour morning fair was “very informational,” “excellent,” and that “many resources were represented.”
The fair was sponsored by the New Sharon Village Elders, a group whose goal is to enrich the final years of New Sharon seniors while staying in the environment of their choice.
The NSVE group hoped the fair would help seniors better understand help and assistance that is available regarding home safety, balance tips and techniques, health, Medicare and supplemental insurance, safety and self-defense, preventing falls, transportation, Meals On Wheels, telephone checks, heating costs, financial aid, and other topics relating to aging in place and enriching their personal environment.
Agencies supporting the NSVE and exhibiting at the fair included SeniorsPlus, Androscoggin Homecare & Hospice, Western Maine Community Action, Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County, Franklin Memorial Hospital Physical Therapy Division, Western Maine Transportation Services.
Going forward the New Sharon Village Elders hope to continue assisting seniors in bettering their lives by promoting participation in local social activities and coordinating/clarifying programs designed for seniors.
The NSVE group meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon every other Thursday at the town office. Visitors are welcome.
