New Vineyard passes wind project moratorium

NEW VINEYARD – Voters made a few revisions to articles Saturday during a town meeting, select board Chairwoman Fay Adams said Monday.

Incumbent Selectman Frank Forster was elected by a 36-21 vote over William McLatchey, she said.

Voters reduced the amount for the Fire Department replacement account from $10,000 to $5,000, the same amount raised last year, she said. They also eliminated the $2,000 requested for the town road equipment account because there is $7,000 in reserve, she said.

Residents also voted for a moratorium on wind projects to give the Planning Board time to draft guidelines for them.

An article to raise $500 for the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project was reduced to no money because no one from the agency was there to support the request, Adams said.

Voters also agreed to spend $25,000 to pave the town office parking lot and to correct the too-steep ramp for handicap accessibility and safety reasons, she said.
