CMP, Bangor Hydro restoring power after wind storm

Maine utility companies are making progress as they restore electric service to customers who lost power when strong winds buffeted the state.

A crew from Bangor Hydro works to restore power along Huston Lane in Eddington on Friday. Nicole Hanson, who lives on Route 9 in Eddington, posted lime green signs drawing attention to downed power lines in hopes of getting swift attention to being without power for over 24 hours. Her power was restored at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

More than 100,000 homes and businesses in Maine lost power at some point during Thursday's wind storm.

As of 7 p.m., Bangor Hydro Electric reported that 530 homes and businesses in  48 towns were without power. The largest outage area was Pembroke with 122 customers without power. By Saturday morning, the number had further decreased to 305.

Central Maine Power reported that 980 customers in 10 counties were without power as of 7:10 p.m. The largest outage areas were in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties with 183 and 179 customers without power, respectively.

The National Weather Service says winds have gusted to 63 mph in Bath, 57 mph in Turner, 54 mph in Augusta and 49 mph in Portland. Offshore, it hit 74 mph at Matinicus Rock.
