PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland woman who suffered severe burns when fire swept through her home Sunday died at a Boston hospital Friday, police said.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Julia Ball, 56, succumbed to her injuries Friday morning. Where in Boston she was hospitalized was not disclosed.
Ball was standing outside the Burnside Avenue home when firefighters arrived on Sunday. She had been taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland following the blaze before being airlifted to Boston.
McCausland said investigators have determined the fire started in the living room, most likely from smoking materials.
