SKOWHEGAN — Electrical workers at a Skowhegan paper mill have rejected a new contract offer, setting the stage for a possible strike.
The 59 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers at Sappi Fine Paper voted against the contract offer on Thursday.
Union local president David Boudreau tells the Morning Sentinel (bit.ly/TkgySe) the next step is to schedule a meeting for a strike vote. That meeting has not been scheduled. Boudreau wouldn't specify what issues union members had issues with.
Management could not be reached.
Members of machinists union at Sappi agreed to the contract.
Sappi is the largest maker of coated paper in North America.
There are about 800 employees in Skowhegan.
