Traffic stop, woman ‘pretending to be disabled’ leads to two arrests in Waterville

WATERVILLE — A 20-year-old man was arrested for operating under the influence early Friday and his 19-year-old passenger wound up going to jail with him, police said.

Alexander Lapierre of Winslow and Kassey Corbin of Waterville had been pulled over on Sherwin Street after police witnessed Lapierre driving in the wrong lane of traffic, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

While police were giving Lapierre field sobriety tests, Corbin stuck her head out the window and started acting in an unusual manner, Rumsey said.

“She was pretending to be disabled somehow and she was making some noises,” Rumsey said.

Concerned for Corbin’s well-being, police decided to check on her and she became agitated, not giving police her identity, Rumsey said.

“She got taken to the hospital against her will,” the deputy chief said.

While at the hospital, it was discovered Corbin was heavily intoxicated and she was placed under arrest and charged with failure to provide a correct name, address and date of birth, Rumsey said. She also was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.

Lapierre also was taken to jail and charged with operating under the influence, operating without a license, refusing to sign a criminal summons and possession of alcohol by a minor, Rumsey said.

Both suspects were released from the Kennebec County Jail on bail.
