Two injured, one hospitalized in single-vehicle accident

LIVERMORE FALLS — A local man is listed in fair condition Friday at a Lewiston hospital after the car he was a passenger in went out of control Thursday night on Souther Road.

The road surface was snowy and slushy, with freezing rain and drizzle at the time, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Friday.

A 2001 Dodge Neon driven by Robert Judd, 33, of Jay, was traveling south on the road, off Moose Hill Road and Route 17, at about 8:30 p.m. when his vehicle began to skid on the slippery road, and Judd was unable to stop, Steward said.

Judd regained control of the car and struck a guardrail on the passenger side. The car then crossed the roadway and struck a snowbank on the driver's side, Steward said.

The passenger, Wil Chabot, 37, with a last known address of Livermore Falls, was knocked unconscious, he said.

Officer Steve Wilkinson responded to the scene and had the town's Public Works crew called out to treat the slippery roads.

Livermore Falls firefighters also responded to assist at the scene.

The driver, who complained of pain, and the passenger were checked at the scene by NorthStar emergency medical services personnel, Steward said.

Chabot was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He is in fair condition, a hospital public relations representative said Friday.
