Mtn. Valley wrestling

Coach: Chris Bean (second year)

Last year's record: Third in Class B

Returning athletes: Senior — Nicole Burgess (106); Juniors — Jake Thornton (120), Anthony Boucher (170); Sophomores — Brandon Gill (126), Nate Boucher (132), Dakota Jacques (138), Ian Austin (160).

Key losses: Joe Provencher (138), Robert Worthley (152), Ryan Glover (285).

Promising newcomers: Senior — Santos Rodriguez (195); Junior — Zach Cross (182); Freshmen — Mike Provencher (113), Tyler Cote (170).

Outlook: The Falcons will build around four wrestlers — Burgess, Jacques, Gill and Nate Boucher — who placed in the top four at states a year ago. Thornton was seeded to score points, as well, before he was sidelined from that meet due to illness. Beyond that group, Mountain Valley is relatively young in terms of varsity mat time. Bean is hoping for a couple of a late arrivals that would bolster the team considerably. Even with their current roster, the Falcons again should challenge Fryeburg for Western B supremacy.

Coach's comment: "Some of the people we wanted to show up didn't show up, and that's going to hurt us. But we think it's up for grabs." — Coach Chris Bean
