Kennebunk police release 4 more names in prostitution case

KENNEBUNK — Police on Monday released four more names of men they believe paid for sex with a woman who's charged with using her Zumba dance studio as a front for prostitution, bringing the total of accused clients to more than 60.

The new names released by the Kennebunk Police Department brings the total to at least 62, including 58 men identified by police and four who already pleaded guilty.

They're accused of engaging a prostitute in a case involving a dance instructor accused of turning her studio into a brothel in Kennebunk, a small town of about 10,000 residents that's known for its ocean beaches and old sea captains' mansions. Alexis Wright, 29, of nearby Wells, has pleaded not guilty to 106 counts including prostitution, invasion of privacy, tax evasion and other charges. Her accused business partner also has pleaded not guilty.

Police have been identifying them every other Friday on a police activity log but delayed last week's release because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

A lawyer who's seen the entire list says it contains more than 150 names.

Kennebunk police Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee said Monday that names will continue to be released as defendants are contacted and misdemeanor summonses are issued.

The fourth release of names was smaller than the previous releases because of shortened weeks that included Veterans Day and Thanksgiving and a court-ordered deadline for turning over discovery documents in the case, Burpee said.
