Vehicle registration going mobile

AUGUSTA — Maine residents can now renew their vehicle registrations on their mobile devices.

The secretary of state's office says the new upgrade to the Rapid Renewal system includes a design that automatically reformats to work on any screen size. Users can renew through Rapid Renewal on smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop computers.

Rapid Renewal is currently offered in 161 cities and towns from York County to Aroostook County, with populations ranging from Glenwood Plantation's two citizens to more than 64,000 in Portland.

Through Rapid Renewal, citizens can renew their vehicle registrations 24 hours a day, seven days a week and pay their municipal excise taxes in one simple online transaction.

The website is www.Maine.gov/vehicle .
