Restaurant in Mass. receives rare orange lobster from Maine, a 'live marine oddity'

MANSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — When workers at a Mansfield seafood restaurant and store were unpacking a shipment of lobsters from Maine over the weekend, they at first thought someone had slipped in an already cooked lobster as a joke, The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro reports.

But the carrot-colored crustacean unpacked at Fresh Catch was no joke — it was a live marine oddity.

Fresh Catch vice president Derek Barber tells The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro he's heard of blue lobsters, but never in his career has he heard of or even seen an orange lobster.

According to marine experts, orange lobsters are a 1 in 10 million find.

A spokesman for the New England Aquarium called it an "unusual and interesting" discovery.

The 1 ½-pound lobster is in the store's tank, but its fate is still undetermined.
