Best Christmas gift ever: A toy truck ... and the key to the garage

I am now 89 years old. This happened back in the early '30s when I was perhaps 6 or 7 years old and my next brother was 7 or 8.

It was Christmas morning; under the tree was a large cardboard box. The box was for my brother and me. Well, we decided to open it, but we didn't know how, so our older brother — about 15 or 16 — said, 'I will open it for you.'

Well, inside was a beautiful truck (with dump body). It had dual wheels in back and a beautiful steering wheel.

Well, the truck was given to (my) 7- or 8-year-old brother. I was given the box.

Well, I wasn't very happy with the box until I found that the box made into a garage and you could lock the door.

At night we would lock the truck in the garage. I had the only key. If my brother wouldn't let me play with the truck, I wouldn't unlock the garage.

Everything finally turned out OK.

I will never forget that Christmas.
