Applicants will be matched with jobs based on their prior retail, home improvement and military experience, according to the release.

Home Depot has stores in Auburn, Augusta, Bangor, Biddeford, Ellsworth, Portland, Rockland, South Portland, Topsham, Waterville and Windham. The news release did not mention how many of the 450 seasonal positions would be available in each store, but availability is expected to vary.

The release said that “more than half” of Home Depot’s 2012 springtime hires were granted permanent jobs after the season.

Applications for these positions are already being accepted. Job-seekers are encouraged to apply to the in-store hourly positions online at http://careers.homedepot.com.

In total, the company plans to add about 80,000 seasonal workers, 10,000 more than its seasonal staff last year, according to the news release. Home Depot has more than 300,000 employees and operates 2,256 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
