Jay firefighter Darren Roundy has been named the town's firefighter of the year for 2012. Roundy has served the department as a firefighter and past lieutenant training officer, and is very active in the department. As training lieutenant he was instrumental in revamping the Fire Department training records. His supervisors also praised him for scheduling training for the department and played a major role in the department obtaining the SHAPE Award (Safety and Health Award for Public Safety) presented by the Maine Department of Labor. In presenting the award, his supervisors said Roundy "inspires those who know and respect him. Darren always knows what has to be done and gets the task accomplished. He is well respected by his fellow firefighters and area fire departments." From left are Capt. Scott Shink, Lt. Rick Duguay, Roundy, Assistant Chief Mike Booker and Public Safety Director Larry White Sr.
