AUGUSTA — Troy Munford of Sunday River Resort was presented with the Governor's Award for Tourism Excellence during a ceremony at the recent Maine Governor's Conference on Tourism held at the Samoset Resort.
The Maine Tourism Awards are sponsored by the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development's Office of Tourism and were presented by Gov. Paul LePage and DECD Commissioner George Gervais. Honorees are nominated by their peers in the tourism industry and selected in a juried process. The Governor's Award for Tourism Excellence is the event's highest honor.
As the tour and travel sales manager at Sunday River, Munford has increased year-round bus tour business to the resort by 400 percent in recent years. He has worked with Bethel Outdoor Adventures, Maine Mineralogy Expeditions and other businesses to create summer bus tour itineraries that benefit several local businesses.
