Lewiston man charged with attempted murder, again

LEWISTON — A local man has been charged with attempted murder, accused of shooting a man outside a bar in December.

Marty Paige, 34, of 195 Main St., was indicted this week by a grand jury that also charged him with reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a felon and assault.

It was the second time in three years that Paige has been charged with attempted murder.

On Dec. 18, Paige got into a dispute with a man at Club VYBZ in Lewiston, according to police reports. Paige threatened to kill the man and then went outside to wait for him, reports said.

When the other man stepped outside, police said, Paige shot him. Prosecutors convinced the grand jury that Paige's intent was to kill the man, who later recovered from his wounds.

On the latest charges, Paige remained jailed Friday and will be summoned to appear in court.

In 2009, he was convicted of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after prosecutors dropped the charge of attempted murder. In that case, Paige was accused of holding a knife to the throat of a woman in a bathroom at 7-Eleven.

That victim told police she was in the store bathroom with another girl when Paige began banging on the door. When she opened the door, Paige pushed his way in, saying he was going to choke her, a prosecutor said.

Paige slammed the woman against a toilet at the back wall, his hands moving to her throat. He pulled a pen-like object from his pocket and held it to the woman's throat, threatening to kill her, according to the prosecutor.

Because of that conviction, Paige had been prohibited from carrying a gun.

When will this state ever learn..

Put him out on the streets so he can do it over and over again..when will they start putting away these people when they have shown this type of violence? I think it's time to revamp our laws so that there is a punishment for crimes commited..but noooo, they will wait till he really kills someone and destroys a family, then they may give him a slap on the wrist and tell him to be good...

What is wrong with our court

What is wrong with our court system. In 2009, just 3 years ago, this man threatened to kill someone and his actions were mere seconds from actually doing so. He is out and walking amongst us? And this time actually shoots a man? The man survived, but I'll wager a few inches in any direction would have been lethal.

So.... will he soon be walking amongst us again, or will this dangerous person be removed from society for the greater good of all the law abiding citizens?
