A Maine State Police trooper readies his tactical gear at the Switzerland Road entrance to St. Peter's Cemetery in Lewiston on Saturday. Police at the scene said they were talking with a suicidal man who had a gun.
LEWISTON — A suicidal man with a gun is holding police at bay at St. Peter's Cemetery, police say. The entire cemetery at 217 Switzerland Road is shut down and has been for much of the day.
"The guy is suicidal right now. We're trying to talk to him to put the gun down and surrender," said Lewiston police Lt. Michael McGonagle. "We know he's distraught over personal issues. We're trying to end this peacefully without him hurting himself."
Police closed off the Switzerland Road entrance to St. Peter's Cemetery in Lewiston on Saturday afternoon.
