LEWISTON — With an agreement on a Capital Improvement Plan, city councilors are shifting their focus to the municipal budget.
Councilors voted Tuesday to approve a $151 million, five-year capital plan to pay for road and building construction, renovations and equipment purchases.
For fiscal year 2012-13, it calls for $2.9 million for roads, vehicles and equipment; $9 million for schools; and $6.3 million for water, sewer and storm-water utilities.
Projects this coming year include an expanded property demolition effort, work at the Lewiston Public Library and updated maps for the city's Geographic Information System.
The plan calls for $1.1 million in road paving and $607,000 in road rehabilitation projects.
The plan also calls for significant work on Lewiston schools. It includes a $5.5 million expansion at the McMahon School in 2014, building a $17 million elementary school in 2017 and three phases of expansion at Lewiston Middle School.
