CVA athlete qualifies for national team event

Carrabassett Valley Academy athlete Rollie Zagnoli has qualified for Project Gold.

Project Gold group members are invited to train with the U.S. Snowboarding team June 12 to 21.  This is a great opportunity to ride with the top athletes and coaches from across the country. They will be building a full course and will have a private lift serving the course. Gold Camp will be focused on setting goals, improving skills and having fun.

Project Gold group selections include top finishers from the Revolution Tour, Hole Shot events and USASA Nationals, and select other riders who had outstanding performances this season.

Zagnoli, 16, was undefeated in the Maine Mountain Snowboarding Series after competing in all of the Youth Men's events.  He was invited to the National Snowboard Championships held at Copper Mountain in April and won a place on the podium, proudly taking the bronze medal for the second straight year.

He also raced in 5 Nor-am/Hole Shot events for the first time, competing against athletes of all ages from around the world.  He finished 11th at Killington's Nor-am and finished the Tour 46th.
