NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition held in Rumford

RUMFORD— The Rumford Parks and Rumford Lodge of Elks #862 host an NFL  Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Sunday, September 30th.

The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6 - 15 and will be held at Hosmer Field at 9 a.m. for boys and girls age 6 - 11 followed by the 12-15 year olds at 10 a.m. Age classification is as of December 31 of the current year. Registration begins half an hour before competition starts.  Each participant must fill out a registration form, have it signed by their parent or legal guardian. and they must give a valid copy of their birth certificate in order to compete.  Entry forms will be available the day of the competition.  Coaches of AYF football teams will also have copies of the forms as well.

The top finishers from each of ten age groups at the local competition will advance to a Sectional competition. The winners at the Sectional competition will have their scores compared with other Sectional champions; the top four scores from the pool of Sectional champions advance to the New England Patriots Team Championship.

Age group champions at this level will be declared NFL  Punt, Pass & Kick team champions.  The top four finishers in the boys’ and girls’ divisions within each age bracket form the pool of Team Champions will qualify for the national finals at an NFL playoff game in January.

Local Man Selected For USA-Canada Charity Ride

Andy Bailes of Bowdoinham has been selected to participate in The Peloton Project of the Cancervive organization out of Calgary, Alberta. Bailes, along with 39 other cyclists will embark on a 2,500-mile, 10-day journey from Calgary, Alberta, to Lewiston.  The riders will leave Calgary on October 3 and expect to arrive in Maine Friday, October 12, just in time for Dempsey Challenge weekend festivities.

The Peloton Project will also be made into a documentary. The production crew includes several Mainers and will be led by Director Ramsey Tripp, Owner of Trade-mark R Productions in Lewiston, Maine, and Producer, Laura Davis, Partner at Rinck Advertising in Auburn, Maine.  Actor and Maine native, Patrick Dempsey, founder and namesake of the Dempsey Center, has signed on as Executive Producer. The film will follow Bailes and the other 39 cyclists as they make their way from Calgary to Lewiston. 

Renegades Peewee one Win two More in Valley League Action

The Maine Renegades AAA Peewee one team won both of their games Saturday, Sept. 22 at Merrimack College.  The first win of the day was a 12-1 victory over Newburyport.  Eleven different players recorded at least one point on the scoresheet with Cam Niven leading the way with a hat trick and an assist.  Joe Pichette also recorded a goal and four assists.  Game two was a 6-0 victory over the Seacoast Spartans.  Luca Colinet and Jacob Smith recorded the combined shutout.  Colby Anton, Thomas Levasseur, and Derek Allen each had a multi-point game for the Rens.
