Don Whittemore led a history walk in downtown Phillips as part of the celebration of the dedication of the first 20 miles of the Fly Rod Crosby Trail on Aug. 25. Whittemore is pictured with Sen. Tom Saviello near the historic Beal Block. The trail will eventually stretch 45 miles from Strong to Oquossoc and is based on the life and times of Maine’s first registered guide, Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby. Other events included guided hikes on the new heritage hiking trail, a free cookout at the Phillips Area Community Center and free train rides at the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad.
