Treats for Troops program

Teacher Sue Reny of Lewiston Middle School and the students of her eighth grade class became helping heroes this fall with their unique “Treats for Troops” program. Throughout October, the students collected more than 100 pounds of candy to be donated to servicemen and women on active duty overseas. To ship the many treats and letters from the students to the troops, Lewiston Middle School partnered with the Maine Oxy Supports the Troops program. Maine Oxy runs a donation drop box program in which the company collects donations and combines them to make large care packages to ship to troops. Maine Oxy was able to ship all 100 pounds of candy to multiple groups overseas. Shown with their candy collections are students Hassan Adan, Antonio Beaupre, Tyler Cote, Deni Federico, Darci Morgan, Tyler Conn, Caleb Wagg, Nick Tilley and Shawna Burch.
