West Sumner Universalist Society to begin summer church season

SUMNER — Preparations are underway for the beginning of the Summer Church season at the West Sumner Universalist Society, Main Street, Route 219, about a half-mile from Pleasant Pond.

Marilyn Hammond will open with a service of Universalist Communion at 11 a.m. July 8. The service will contain historical notes, an occasion for the remembrance of Jesus' life and teachings.

A christening service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Anyone wishing to have their child or themselves christened should call Pauline Kirschner at 388-2020.

The Church Restoration Committee, a fundraising arm of the church, is accepting donations to assist in maintaining the church. Present extensive plans include raising enough money to paint the interior of the church.

A food and whatever sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18. Tables will be rented for $10. New items can be donated by calling Kirschner at 388-2020. Arrangements can be made for pick up. Donated baked goods would be appreciated.

Speakers for the summer season will be: July 8, Marilyn Hammond; July 15, Rev. Robert Sallies; July 22, Rev. Richard Beal; July 29, Silver Moore Leeman; Aug. 5, Rev. Scott Jones; Aug. 12, Rev. Howard McMullin; Aug. 19, Rodney Abbott; Aug. 26, Bernice Martin. Beth Chaffee will be the organist.
