LEWISTON — The Jesus Party Pentecostal Kid's Church is rolling towards 18 years of ministry in high gear. An anonymous downer paid to have the ministry's two passenger vans professionally lettered and designed with colorful, kid-friendly themes. Rev. Douglas and Sonia Taylor are celebrating 17 full years of inner-city children's ministry and have provided free transportation throughout the years aboard the vans that are called "The Holy Roller Express."
The Jesus Party shares its anniversary month, February, with "Black History Month" and sets time aside to promote racial harmony. Area children are invited to celebrate the Taylor's anniversary by attending a special "Harriet Tubman Night" at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Jesus Party headquarters, 291 Bates St., Lewiston.
Children will learn about Tubman's selflessness and contributions to equality and freedom. Children will enjoy snacks such as oreo cookies and chocolate milk as a symbolic gesture of racial unity, and will receive M&M's and a box of crayons as a celebration of colors.
The Jesus Party is a nonprofit faith-based children's ministry and relies on the generosity of the community. Anyone wishing to make a tax deductible contribution to this urban youth outreach can mail it to The Jesus Party Inc., PO Box 264, Lewiston, ME 04243 or call 786-5568.
