PHILLIPS — A “Meet the Authors” event will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mountain Hardstock. The shop, which carries locally-made goods, including crafts, foods and books by local authors, is housed in The Little White Church Antiques and More at 83 Main St.
Sunday’s event will provide the chance to meet some of the area’s local authors in a casual setting, talk with them about their books and get signed copies for early Christmas gifts. Writers expected to attend include Chuck Boyer ("Presentation as War" and "Get Your Frog Out of the Well"), Karen Calloway ("After the Rain"), Winona Davenport ("Phillips Through My Eyes"), Lynne Harwood ("Honeybees at Home"), Dick Matthews ("Notes from an Innkeeper’s Journal" and "Hell is So Green"), Nancy Prince ("Libby’s Loons") and Lawrence Wilber ("Let Me Take Your Hand").
For more information, call the shop at 639-2889.
Bill Diebold, the father of former Phillips resident Penelope Diebold, wrote "Hell is So Green," an account of his search and rescue operations of downed fliers in Burma during WWII. The book was edited and published by Phillips writer Richard Matthews. Matthews also wrote an introduction and afterword for the book. This drawing show Lt. Diebold wearing the hat that he designed himself.
