On Nov. 19 the VFW Post 9150 of Lewiston awarded the winners of the Patriots Pen Essay Contest, Middle School Level. The title this year was “What I would tell our Founding Fathers.” From left are Ron Arsenault, vice post commander; Alison Porter, third place, grade 8; Zhadhave Johnson, first place, grade 8; Elizabeth Michaud, second place, grade 8; and Bob Mcdonald, post commander. All students are from Lewiston Middle School. Students placing first locally will compete at the district level. One winner from each district will then compete for first place in the state. A state winner will be chosen and receive a scholarship and a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete at the national level.
